Long time owner of the XMC-1 and just recently bought the HDMI 4K board about 3 months ago. Everything works good and I love my XMC-1 and I've been keeping tabs on when the atmos board was going to be released and I head over to the website and it's no longer found....
is the XMC-1 discontinued?

Wait? What? The XMC-1 is discontinued?!?!? Emotiva is no longer releasing the Atmos / DTS:X board for the XMC:1? Dan Laufman Lonnie KeithL is this true or forum speculation?

End of life for XMC-1 was announced months ago. I'd guess upgrades are still planned though.

End of life for XMC-1 was announced months ago. I'd guess upgrades are still planned though. I must have missed that announcement, but the montra from Dan and Emotiva indicated and I quote: " Ultimate Flexibility and ConvenienceForget planned obsolescence. The XMC-1 is completely modular and upgradable to meet future standards. All main system components can be upgraded as needed, while our custom Linux software assures expandability for years to come." I've been anxiously waiting for the Atmos / DTS:X board, so I can have both it and the HDMI boards installed. Sorry, just looking for an official answer as I would have sold my XMC-1 last year and purchased another processor instead of waiting all this time.

Where does it say anywhere that the Atmos board isn't happening? They have been talking about this for a long time. There have been marketing emails that have gone out to say that it was going away. They have new processors that they are going to rolling out in 2019. Just because it's not available anymore doesn't mean it's not going to be upgradeable or serviceable. The V3 board is still available on the website and is the very first product shown. Jason

Yes, it's been discontinued. But they are still supporting it, and still supposedly working on an Atmos - DTS:X upgrade.
But, it was strongly hinted at that the replacement XMC-2 will come first. RMC-1, XMC-2, THEN the XMC-1 upgrade. So in Emotiva time, you could be waiting a while. Perhaps a long while.

Being built on the same base platform as the upcoming models makes the XMC-1 upgradeable without them having to continue to sell it new, as it is.
Calm down...take a deep breath.
I expect the Atmos board to be the final hardware upgrade for the XMC-1. I would imagine there will be more firmware updates in the pipeline, depending on the direction of the industry and what the XMC-1 hardware is capable of.

The OP just said that he could not find the link for the Atmos board. Is this the last drama topic of 2018?

Yes, the XMC-1 is discontinued; long live the XMC-2.
But, yes, we will continue to support the XMC-1.
And, yes, the Atmos upgrade board is still on the way.... Our current estimate is late Q1 / early Q2.

What about after this round of updates? Can we expect the XMC1 to have updates for 8KHDMI 2.1, and future Surround formats

Good to hear. I never doubted the planned upgrades for the XMC-1. Just a question.... are the 2 upgrades such as the hdmi board and atmos board redesignate the processor to XMC-2 or is there something else that I’m missing? Either way I am happy and blessed with my XMC. Happy New Year!!!

Can we expect the XMC1 to have updates for 8KHDMI 2.1, and future Surround formats Why don't we all wait until we cross that bridge. ...or did you already get that 8k HDMI 2.1 display for Xmas? I wish! I was asked that back when I was talking about the need for HDMI 2 and the need for Atmos and stuff but it was have you got a 4k display? What 4k movies are you going to watch? Note the XMC-1 was announced with HDMI 2 capability. But very quickly when they came out everybody wanted to know these questions and Emotiva had a lot of trouble getting it out on time. Heck Atmos is still not out and it's discontinued. It's not an unfair question to ask exactly how far the updates can expect to last in to the future? Let's take Schiit: They too have upgrade capability built in to the product. But the difference is that none of their three upgradable lines was discontinued since they came out. You can take a first generation Schiit Bifrost and upgrade it to the latest gen 5 USB and the multibit Bifrost. So their promise that one didn't have to obsolete your unit has held strong. Emotiva has still done an admirable job with their HDMI 2 updates. But can it continue past the first cycle?

Upgrading HT equipment sounds great, but it is just not implementable for very long. Companies have all good intention, but the standards change so rapidly that small companies don't have much of a chance.
I fell into this trap with B&K in th 90s. They had a couple upgrades, but they were very expensive and not practical.
My humble opinion is to spend a modest amount on a HT pre and expect to replace it every few years if you are chasing thr latest HT game.
You have to decide what modest is. For me I'd seriously consider something at $1200 or below. Once you get past that I'm out.
Also if you want great two channel then get a good 2ch pre with HT bypass. Then your HT Processor is just that, a HT Processor.

I’ll keep my XMC-1 for a few more years, I think. Won’t be upgrading to Atmos. It’s been great and still is.
