I'm surprised no one is even questioning the reason for discontinuing the XMC-1. If I remember correctly, its probably been in production for about 3 years? Why stop production already? Who's to say the XMC2 or RMC won't be replaced within a couple years? XMC was $2500, not exactly spare change. So much for future proof. Very disappointed!! 🤦🏻♂️

I’ve had mine 4 and a half, (released 2014). Plenty of us have talked about it. Yes, discontinued quicker than expected, but much has changed in the marketplace since it’s introduction and object based audio came into play right near the end of R. and D. on this unit ,with some nuts out there calling It outdated before it even hit the shelf. If you’re lucky enough to own one, you’ve got GOLD in your hands. Audiophile sound quality and video all in one beautifully engineered piece. For my part, I think used ones should go up in value, for those who are not Hell bent on knocking holes 🕳 in the ceiling. Bill

A guest's logic escapes me. What does discontinuing selling the XMC-1 have to do with being future proof? If they're still providing upgrades and new features to the XMC-1, while now selling a new and improved XMC-1 in the XMC-2, isn't the XMC-1 still future proof? Come back when the XMC-2 starts providing things that they won't put into the XMC-1.

I have an XMC-1 and haven’t done the upgrade board for 4K. I saw the XMC-2 is coming with Atmos and after the initial excitement and “ hey it’s time to upgrade “ feeling wore off , I began to look at the back panels of both and have some concerns.
The XMC-2 has 16 amazing XLR outputs and no preamp outs. This requires that any and all amplifiers one uses must have balanced inputs ? Suddenly a $1000 preamp upgrade becomes a major amplifier investment as well! Does one really need to use amplifiers with balanced inputs for .6 surrounds ? I may have to snag an upgrade board only for machine only , if one is still available. I’ve only just begun to consider Atmos , but if it becomes a want, some difficult choices are ahead.

Monoprice has RCA to XLR or XLR to RCA cables for cheap, there are also female XLR to male RCA adapters out there. www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=4784www.amazon.com/Hosa-GXF-132-RCA-XLR3F-Adaptor/dp/B000068O4B/ref=pd_lpo_sbs_267_img_1?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=MMR6B8C380P8MVW8AVA6

I look at it this way. Future proofing upgrades were never promised to be free. Emotiva is offering us XMC-1 owners a Video Board upgrade, and a Audio Board upgrade with improved resolution for just $1000.00. Yes, you do have to send your XMC-1 back to them, and the unit you get back looks different with a back panel reconfiguration. But still, that's a lot of improvement for the money. In fact it's actually a 2,999.00 new processor with a new warranty.
I have to admit that Emotiva processors do have their quirks. I waited to buy my XMC-1 until they announced the price increase. Until they got enough bugs out of it so that it was actually worth the price they wanted to charge for it.
But for those of us who own Emotiva processors, the one thing that we know that they deliver on is Sound!
So the XMC-1 is being discontinued. I don't have any need for any of the upgrades that they've included into this update, now. So I'm going to sit back and enjoy my awesome XMC-1, and watch what's going to happen with the XMC-2. When it's ready (sorted out), and I'm ready, I'll probably take advantage of this wonderful offer. (I realize that there is a finite window this offer is going to exist in).
Interestingly I haven't heard a peep about any future proofing, or upgrading ever being made available for the XMC-2.

Whatever happened to the adapters that were supposed to come with the new units ? If I remember correctly, one of the official responses was that you have to ask for them at purchase.

]If I remember correctly, one of the official responses was that you have to ask for them at purchase. I believe you are correct. For schitts and giggles I just went and put one in my cart. Guess what, no extra button or click option to say you want the adapters. There is a special instructions box I suppose you could type it in there. Also noticed that it said "shipping not included." Since when with Emotiva is shipping not included for orders over $50?

Every website has it's quirks that's for sure. Still think there should be an option to click to say you want the adapters.

Thanks... I actually searched this morning and found the exact same site and solution...... can't say that purchasing 13 -16 XLR to RCA adapters is really the solution I was looking for... but it is a workaround (sigh) I thought that was an RMC-1 thing ?? It was, but it wasn’t. Bottom line for m3adjuster is that you have to buy adapters, not amplifiers, XLR connectors are still ‘preamp outs’ [ Whatever happened to the adapters that were supposed to come with the new units ? ]If I remember correctly, one of the official responses was that you have to ask for them at purchase. Interestingly I haven't heard a peep about any future proofing, or upgrading ever being made available for the XMC-2. Agree with you on the quirks... I had a UMC-1 prior to my XMC-1.. typically the Emotiva initial product is not ready for prime time and needs much beta testing... RE: Back panel reconfiguration on the change from XMC-1 to XMC-2 I have noticed the following differences on the XMC-2 1- no REC OUT tape loop 2- no 7.1 analog inputs from another processor (this is clearly a defunct option that would not be needed on XMC-2) 3- no Zone 1 output (there is a Zone 2 output... however the XMC-1 has outputs for a second main zone 1 and also zone 2) I am sure a work around with Emotiva Xbal-1X2 adapters can be used to split the main XLR preamp outs as a work around.. Overall I agree... for 1K... the updates are significant.. however.. using a ton of different adapters to retain the same functionality is a bit disappointing.. If the video board alone becomes available again.. . I very may well just stay with the $400 upgrade alone for the time being as I have not explored Atmos/DTS-X yet,, and I am not sure that I am ready to give up some of the functionality above.
