I wasn’t going to do the ATMOS upgrade but for $650 I’m totally in. I will keep my dual processor setup until the XMC-2 is free of bugs, though. My question would be, is this going to be a limited time trade in offer or could the trade in/upgrade take place after all the upcoming bugs are sorted out? My XMC-1 is working fine so trading it in for glitchy unit with no Dirac would be a deal breaker for me. Since the XMC-2 (as shown at CEDIA 2018) will not have 7.1 analog inputs, it totally wouldn’t work in your current “dual processor” setup, so probably a good idea to wait if you can. For me, I’m all in as soon as it’s available. If there’s remaining bugs that I cannot work around, I always have my AV7703 to get me over the hump. With the growing pains of the V3 HDMI board, it certainly wouldn’t be the first time I’ve had to do that...

So that's the big announcement.
I have owned a XMC-1 since it became available and can say my technical issues with it have been very very minimal even with the V3 board.
I think what they are offering is fantastic option to keep us all faithful to the Emotiva products. My concerns will be Dirac implementation and having too many bugs for the XMC-2 which was the main selling point for the XMC-1. Full disclosure I know some have had more issues with the XMC-1 but I referencing from the UMC days.
Bottom line its a risk I am willing to take. Sign me up.

The lack of 7.1 Analog Inputs on the XMC-2 is a deal breaker for me as I really love running dual processors the way I'm doing it right now. Also, getting the XMC-2 would leave me without Dolby PLIIx which I love for music listening. At this point I'm keeping the XMC-1 and I may get the XMC-2 to replace the Denon X6500H only when it's free of bugs. That way I would be running dual processors both with Dirac Live.

I won't miss the 7.1 analog inputs but the lack of RCA outputs will make me have to re-think my tricky wiring that allows a sub in reference stereo and ability to choose between 2 different FR/FL amps. I think I can work it out but it will take some dedicated thought. After all, I figured out how to do what people said I could not do (have a sub on reference stereo), so this should be trivial. Mark

If true, I’ll gladly trade my XMC-1 (early adopter) with factory installed V-3 board in for an XMC-2 @ $650 and that’s a very fair and generous offer if true

This could be interesting, I wonder how it works for international customers. Do I take my XMC-1 to my local distributor, give him $US650 and he gives me an XMC-2? Or do I have to send my XMC-1 the 15,000 kilometres to Franklin (again) and they send me an XMC-2? That’s a lot of $freight. How long does the offer last?
Cheers Gary

The things that give me pause are (1) I don't really need Atmos and (2) after a year my v3 video board is still buggy. I'd want to see how the XMC-2 rollout goes before swapping, especially given the RMC-1's issues.

Easy decision for me. I don't need a 7.1 analog input, so count me in as well.

Might be cheaper to flog 1 of the 2 units have as is and buy a new unit with 40% off....or schlep my 2 units with me tithe states and ship them con USA for the upgrades and bring back again if my trip is long enough to turn them around with me, or just intel ship the pair back...taxes being the biggest unknown. That’s said I don’t have 4K tv facilities yet nor anything past 5.1 in reality. But the time will come for at least one with Atmos and 4K I hope...swmbo permitting.

I have no plans for atmos or anything other than 7.1 but getting the new chipset, dirac 2 and being future proof is worth the expense. You never know what the future holds right? Put me down for one also...wheres that list at

I’m in. I don’t need the 7.1 analog inputs. I don’t need Atmos in my house, but plan to go with at least two ceiling speakers in an Atmos system in a new house in a few years after retirement. I do want Dirac. I really like it.

Dirac is the must-have for me. I'll stick with my XMC-1 if the XMC-2 doesn't do full Dirac Live.

Therefore, Emotiva products with Atmos support do not have Dirac

Lonnie has already posted this in the RMC-1 thread but I thought I'd post it here as well.
Straight from the DIRAC Research Facebook page on April 5, 2019:

Dirac Research April 5 at 3:29 PM ·
Dirac & Emotiva Communities: We’ve met some unexpected obstacles developing the code for the ADI Griffin Lite platform that have caused us to fall behind our initial schedule.
Developing product across multiple teams, located across three continents, can present challenges – especially when pioneering a new generation of DSP for max performance.
However, efforts have been doubled, all obstacles have now officially been cleared, and we’re back on track. We’ll have an update on the new release date soon, and we thank you all for your patience and understanding. We promise the wait will be worth it!

If I recall part of Emotiva promise back in 2014 was that buying the XMC-1 you won't need another processor for the next 10 years. Unless I fall in a deep coma and just woke up and today is 2024, then the future proof promise lasted exactly half of what Emotiva advertised. So don't hold your breath on over promises and purchase always knowing that the life cycle of a processor technology is no more than 5 years or even less.

While the XMC-1 won't get upgraded, users can opt for upgrading to the next gen unit for the price of upgrading the old one for the same price as the upgrade of the old one. And...get a re-start on the warranty. I call that a bargain... Has Denon or Marantz ever done that? Not that I know of. Mark

I think trying to promote any processor as future proof is a fools errand (one reason why there are so few out there). It’s just so hard to build something and have it upgradeable to who knows what the next thing will be. It looks like Emotiva tried, but then they realized that the cost in R&D for the XMC1 on Atmos was going to be high, plus the support it would need moving forward. They can offer the XMC2 for $625-$1000 people and maybe make a few bucks selling refurbished XMC1s. I’m sure this is still a money loser for Emotiva, but still saves them money compared to building a new Atmos board. I do think they did the stand up thing by offering this deal to their customers. It shows that they were creative in finding solutions for their customers.

I suppose I could stick the XMC-1 in the suitcase for "service" then bring back the XMC-2 as the "XMC-1 serviced", that would avoid the 10% GST problem (no duty, as we have an FTA with the US). Might just be the stimulus for the often planned but yet to happen trip to Nashville, Memphis and New Orleans. Timing is the question, when's that XMC-2 going to be available? Cheers Gary
