Been holding off on the update. My XMC-2 isn't perfect so I am interested, but I don't want to make it worse either.

My 2 month old XMC-2 went from borderline unusable (lockups, audio failures, crashes, and usability issues) to a much more stable state. Still get the occasional low volume tic when switching codecs and audio modes, no biggie. No longer considering returning it.

Did the 3.1 update yesterday and had no problems or issues. My usage is pretty simple, though. The only problem I had, which 3.1 seems to have fixed, is when using the Harmony remote with a programmed task that used input X, and then later if I turned it on and had a different program using input Y, the XMC-2 would not go to the right input and I had to manually select it even though the Harmony commands were correct. V 3.1 seems to have corrected this error. I use low power mode and have the older HDMI card so boot up time is slow like others are experiencing. Waiting is like plodding through some of the long-winded posts in the Lounge.

Switching inputs appears to be faster. I’m using VRO, so the slow boot up experienced with low power mode doesn’t affect me.
Only issue I have is very low volume from the TV unless the amps are used.
Edit: Positives- 1) No pops or ticks or metallic sounds with Apple TV 4K 2) Faster HDMI switching.

Missing a voting column, Too scared to try! ... or in my case, I have not heard anything clearly positive that would affect me. But the long reboot would be annoying. So I have not installed it.

Nice to hear that Harmony issue is fixed. I have that problem now so there is a good reason to chance the upgrade.

For me, and I think I am the only one with this issue, the lack of LFE for ATMOS content on my center sub (set as LFE) is enough of an issue I wish I could roll back. See thread here: emotivalounge.proboards.com/post/1103127/threadDespite that, everything else works much better for me... much fewer pops and clicks, and when I do get pops and clicks they are much quieter than with 2.5. The extended boot time (I have the old HDMI board) is annoying, but only mildly so. If the LFE issue I am experiencing was not there, I would happily forgive the longer boot time. The speedup of some of the menus is also really nice. So my overall score on this update is slightly to the negative side of neutral... some good, some bad, but again, I seem to be the only one experiencing the issue I mentioned above. Without that issue, I would rate it a positive.

My XMC2 was fine before. I didn't really know what people meant by clicks and pops. HDMI handshake wasn't the fastest but I work in pro-av- I'm well aware of all things going on- and having an older TV can affect that because it is participating in the handshake, so that's a whtever.
I freaking hate the font thing, it's difficult to understand how either- that wasn't known or that wasn't fixed prior to release- not sure which is worse. But the worst thing is that now, I do occasionally get the clicks and pops. So, this is something of a facepalm update for me. I would totally revert if I could.

It would be good to find out if specific hardware configs, especially RMC hardware/board/chip changes, fit into one voting block or another. This survey could be a good troubleshooting tool with more specific data from owners.
Could be a bad parts run for the units with issues.
Overall so far, the number of people with issues exceed the number of people with no issues. Of course the survey only includes people who post here.

Missing a voting column, Too scared to try! Not doing it either! Way too afraid and benefits are insignificant. Still running 2.3. I would be training off pops and ticks and silences at beginning of songs for more or less of the same and a bonus of added updating fonts at every power up. Yes I know I could use VRO but I stopped using it for stability and I want to stay that way. Honestly it should just be working too…. No excuses. Hopefully we get next firmware update before next summer. Soon to be….. more non-installer than voters! Out of 2000 happy customers only 45 voted…….seriously.

Not a great way to determine if the RMC is technically doing what it is supposed to be doing. Not a great way to troubleshoot a problem. I posted some good ideas for troubleshooting. Somehow you needed to deflect from the serious technical issues and ways to isolate and cure them, by stating a deflecting logical fallacy. Why? I don’t care if 2/3 of the owners think that FW 3.1 is the greatest thing since 100 year old pickled truffles. Throwing 1/3 of your customer base under the bus is a really really BAD idea.

But seriously, if you read his post you'd have seen: " Out of 2000 happy customers only 45 voted……. seriously."
