Anybody here asking for a new poll can make a new poll. So make a new poll. But people that choose not to upgrade will provide no meaningful information if we're looking for who likes the FW and who doesn't. And don't forget: I didn't upgrade because mine is working fine. I didn't upgrade because I haven't had the time. I didn't upgrade because of what I read in the thread and I'm afraid it'll cause problems. I didn't upgrade because I don't like the extended boot time using LPS. I didn't upgrade because I don't have one. Even then, we will have no idea whether it would work well for them or not. It would be better to create a separate poll just for those that didn't upgrade and why they haven't done so. It amazes me how people can be encouraged to do something where the success rate is only 40%. Where you have to install it to see what is in it. What is in it is a grab-bag of issues for 60%. Issues that run from unpleasant to malfunction. Our little exchange has taught me a lot. Thank you. Trying to find out how many people like something by asking people who have never tried it for myriad reasons is absurd. But go ahead and create a poll if you like.

Oh look. Squirrel! Or would you prefer strawman? A Festivus For The 61%ofus gif would be useful. Or, how about a No Success For 61% Of You gif? Loved Seinfeld. That quality of comedy is gone.

As a person who has owned three Emotiva pre pros (UMC-200, XMC-1 and XMC-2) not one has ever performed as advertised. So yea I’m a little disgruntled with the whole thing. It’s funny because all my processor before I bought into Emotiva all worked as advertised (Harmon Kardon 639, Pioneer Elite SC-25 and Onkiyo) all worked as advertised. I’m a little disappointed and kind of fed up they can’t get it right. This XMC-2 will more than likely be my last EMO prepro unfortunately.

I’m a little disappointed and kind of fed up they can’t get it right. This XMC-2 will more than likely be my last EMO prepro unfortunately. Very understandable. I've owned two Emotiva processors, the XMC-1 and XMC-2. I came from a Denon receiver. Prior to that a Pioneer Elite receiver. Both receivers were easy to use, but I found them lacking in sound quality and never really saw any firmware updates. Maybe the firmware updates were not needed. Audessey was OK on the Denon. I liked the fact that Dirac seemed to be a step up. I liked the ability to use a laptop to run the software. I liked the improved mic. It was a learning curve for sure. Once I figured out how to run Dirac on the XMC-1, I was thrilled at how much better the room correction was. I did have some issues with both the Pioneer and Denon. Mainly getting the "auto" audio to pick up on the correct audio stream being presented. It would not always work or pick the correct stream. I spent alot of time digging through the manual. Other than that, I agree that these "mainstream" units did what they were told. With my XMC-2, I would say that I'm about 90% to 95% happy with the current operation. I don't use ARC and right now I'm still on 5.1. Will move to 5.1.4 in a year or two. I don't mind having to do firmware updates as needed to either fix issues or add improvements. What has bothered me are two things...the length of time to release a fix...and when the fix is released, I would like to see a list of exactly what was addresed and what wasn't or is still in work. But mainly how long it has taken to fix things is the main issue for me. I think this is being improved upon with the new HDMI engineer hire. So, long winded, but I normally only recommend Emotiva processors to those who are "tech savvy" and understand what they are getting into. The rest I recommend mainstream.

Thank you, you explained it much better than I did. My experience’s with the mainstream units was very better but you are correct, there were small little issues but not like this. My XMC-2 is definitely a great sounding unit but sometimes I’m afraid to turn it on lol. I get pumped up with the imminent release of a new firmware only to be let down….again. I’ll stick it out until the next firmware.

I think we will se a fix release next week.. I would think they want to release it before christmas. Unless anything new pops up or there’s still something bigger remaining, I don’t see anymore firmwares coming.. Not until the new hardware arrives anyway. My guess is that’s mostly what they have been concentrating on.
I only hope they have started from scratch this time and not ”reworked” the gen 3 code.. That would be a disaster for the new gen.

I agree with you and believe there’s a “patch” coming that will address (at least) the “font updating” bug that those with the original HDMI boards are experiencing with the latest firmware. KeithL has said this himself. I don’t agree, however, that there won’t be any further updates coming before the next generation processors are released. “I” believe that their newly acquired HDMI guru/code writer will have a chance to look closely at what’s going on, make changes where needed, and get the current generation working as best it can. Up to now, we have not seen a firmware release where he’s had much (or more likely “any”) meaningful input. So, I’m holding out hope that the next release will be a big step forward…

I would guess the "patch" fixes as much as they had time to fix in the time since the last went to beta. Why I think there will be no more FW is if this version fixes the stability to a livable state then there would be no need to put work into this gen anymore. They seem to have moved forward since a while back anyway. Most of the features they promised would come have been moved to gen 4. So unless something is unusable they won´t put any work on it is my guess.
But you could be right that they put some effort in and let out a couple of fixes during winter and spring to get the platform as stable as possible. I sure hope they will..

........................I would guess Doc is right and that there will be more updates for the G3P's than just a follow up firmware fix for the "Fonts Issue".

eARC is still on the list of things to include and there is the stuttering audio issue that still needs to be addressed. My bet is there will be more FW updates before Gen4.

Since when have Emotiva added any promised features? You can pretty much count any new features on your fingers. Since the gen 3 were launched with 1,0. Dirac being one of the few.. Took their sweet time get it out also. The list they have of what to fix and add is soooo big.. I don’t think we’ll see much improvements as has been going on for several years. Mostly bug fixes and code changes for 5 years straight.

Emotivas track record for putting out firmware that actually improve features or add functions is pretty much non existant. They have just done bug fixing (which have gone so so) and several code changes (rewrites of different parts).. I really hope they will start putting out smaller fixes in shorter times with point fixes to certain issues. But they seem to want to do the oposit.. Big firmwares that supposedly fixes a lot of things in one go. And because they have been working on the gen 4 platform for years now we can all see why there has been little improvements done. I will note that I have no real issues with my RMC-1 but still I would have liked seeing some real improvements over the 3.5 years I have owned it. Regarding the success rate.. No one can really tell for sure.. But my guess is that it’s pretty much accurate out in the wild as well. About 50% use them without big issues, some have issues and do workarounds without complaints and then we have the group that can’t stand having problems no matter how small. Not all are on the forums, obviously. My guess is Emotiva is swamped with calls with users having problems.

Unless Emotiva actually tells you what their complaint call percentage is, you just don't know. Guessing does no one any good. I agree that those with the RMC-1 who were promised expansion modules that either took a long time to come, or haven't arrived, should be unhappy. I've had good luck with my XMC-1...now XMC-2...and will most likely move on to the G4P when it's time and if it's a good deal.

Not all are on the forums, obviously. My guess is Emotiva is swamped with calls with users having problems. Every computerized product has its idiosyncrasies, defined by the developers and electronic limits. I expect a manufacturer to be honest about their product. Manufacturers make claims. Consumers should beware and make reasoned choices. Once I agree to purchase, with knowledge of what the product does, I expect the product to work like the manufacturer says it does. That’s all I expect. It appears to be too much to ask these days. I have been vocal about features I would like. Perhaps some will come with G4P. So far, EMO can’t fix the bugs in G3P that interfere with basic functions. When FW updates do come, the ‘New World’ includes malfunctions of current basics. Don’t give me an improved engine while flattening my tires. No one can be sure of the success rate. Polls can be silly. Manipulation is part of any polling; consciously intended or not. Polls are easy to mock. My RMC-1L has issues that are not being fixed with FW. I have new issues that FW 3.1 caused. The Fonts Update issue is the small inconvenient one. Loss of Center Height channels and a mute timing problem are the big ones. FW is constantly being used as the magic solution for everything wrong. How many of us are using some kind of ‘work-a-round’ to make the basics function? That would be a useful poll. I have said several times that 'the main competition for these high level processors is a table radio'. I’ve read many scoffing remarks about my assertion. The main competition for the RMC IS a table radio. No one should have to be a savvy hobbyist, using obscure work-a-rounds, to play a movie or music recording. Rethink Hi-End. I’ll make a claim that a Minority of owners are experiencing continuous issues. Some of the minority is owners with personal issues – these will never be fixed. However, some of the minority has processor issues that can’t be fixed with FW updates, yet we are encouraged to wait for a FW update. I think some of the random problems are as simple as bad contacts with edge and wiring connectors. I haven’t opened my unit to check, for concern of voiding my warranty. There are some of us who just have lemons. Fix or replace the lemons. I have a repair ticket in with EMO. No success yet. EMO is still looking at FW. It’s also the holiday season. My ‘guess’ is also that EMO is swamped. Merry Christmas Emotiva. See you in the New Year.
