Someone was telling me that if I get a servo sub I can't or I'm not supposed to use something like a SMS-1. I think they were saying that it negates the utility of the servo. I may have this all wrong is this true. No thats not true, an SMS-1 is just an EQ function.

Can you DIY? I'd build a two 15" IB. You can get everything from Parts Express, or any quality shop. Guaranteed to be better quality sub than anything you can buy for probably two or three times the price, in a tiny little box. <------- I could... That's it exactly. My build is in there, as well as a few buddies's builds. ThomasW will give you all the help you need, he helped me quite a bit. I can definitely recommend Fi, Mach5, and Parts Express. But there are many more quality drivers available. The Cult is a diamond resource, check it thoroughly and don't be afraid to ask questions, of me or the Cult. As far as driver size, two or four 12"s, 15"s, or go mental like I did and use 18"s. They can also be found used, as people upgrade, for way cheap. I'll be happy to help you or anyone else. As you can see from my manifold, you don't need mad wood working skills because it doesn't show. I took my grille off because it looks cool all painted and neatened up, and now people can see what is the deal up there, because everyone asks "what's that ''? Not knowing it's my pride and joy and they're going to get a story. ;D Sorry so late, I missed your post until now.

Ok well this thread has taken some crazy turns mostly bc I don't know what I want and I kept chaning my budget. Then there was a pissing contest in there somewhere . But overall what can we take from this? I think what I really want to at least get out of this thread is if I want to focus on HT should I get: 1) One really nice sub ie an SVS PB-12 Plus or a Rythmik F15 or 2) Get two lesser subs such as the A2-300 or A3s-200. Recommedations please. mattyd, in my opinion I would opt for two subs instead on one. You will probably get a little more output especially if you stack them and it will definately help with set up and cancelling some of the room nodes, etc.

Now as far as placement I'm not worried about evening out room response bc there will be only 2 seats since it's such a small room. So should I stack them or seperate one in the front and one in the back. I have a feeling that everyone is going to say I need to experiment but just asking in case anyone has any insights from experience.

If the room is small, no reason not to keep em together......but yes experimentation is going to be best in the long run.

Put one 2/3 back on the left wall, put the other 1/3 back on the right wall. No experience with this set-up, but I've heard it many times.

Now that I see renewed attention going toward the ERS sub set I think I'm going to grab either the eD A3-300 or the A5s-300 to hold me over.

I happened to go from a pair of A5S-300's to a single Rythmik D15SE, and I took about a $400 dollar loss doing it. Best move I made in the last few months in terms of upgrading audio gear. Its the first sub Ive owned where I finally dont feel the need to upgrade or swap out. That says alot because I have owned about 2 dozen different subs in the past 5 years.

Ntrain, I am really curious to know what subs you have gone through? Do you mind listing them? I looked at the Rythmik that you like and the new Epik that Doing Ok got and the one Animo built where they are all very impressive. There are some outstanding options to be had. What kind of bass performance do you like? As an ex-drummer I really like to feel the kick drum or would like to feel the kick drum with the thump on my chest. The onix rocket I have now is a 10" and a vast improvement over my NHT but I still have not reached that bass nirvana! I really think I need two subs to balance out my room as I notice a difference in bass performance when I rotate around my listening area. I am really anxious to see what science Emotiva is cooking in the lab plus some of the other products that are out there. Good Stuff and I dig it when we get into these type of discussions.

OK here is the list in no particular order: Kef PSW2500's,Kef PSW3500's,Kef PSW4000's, eD A5s-300's,SVS PB-13 Ultra's,Rel Studio 3's, Rel Stentor 3's,Rel Storm 3's, Paradigm Servo-15's, B&W ASW-4000's, 2 Revel Sub 15's w/LE-1,Vandersteen V2W's, James EMB-1500,James EMB-1200,Sunfire True Sub Sig, Velodyne DD15,Velodyne DD12, Focal Elektra 1000 BE, and a few others not even worth mentioning.....because they sucked and I owned em for less than a few hours..... I actually just bought a drum kit and plan on retaking lessons again. I played for about a year when I was younger but never had the time or space, now I do so I plan on getting back into it. I like my bass to be tight and accurate. Im the type who likes "dry bass" I guess you could call it. I want the deep extension just below 20hz, but I also want a nice tight blend into the mains. Subs that can get a ruler flat in room response from 20-80hz is what fills the bill for me for at least a few month audition. Surprisingly its harder to get that type of response in room than most people think. My favorite subs to date OWNED from the above list start with the D15SE, followed by the Vandersteen 2W's, and the old, old Paradigm Servo-15, with the older Revel Sub 15/LE combo coming in a surprisingly distant 4th to the first 3.

Gee, it only took me four tries to find the '' I never need to upgrade again '' sub. Wow.

Gee, it only took me four tries to find the '' I never need to upgrade again '' sub. Wow. 4 18"s in the ceiling is not something everybody has the ability to do, lol. Alot of my sub purchases though were on a wim since I was able to get everything at or below dealer cost without fear of losing money(cept for a few of my more recent purchases). Now with a large new room for theatre I am able to do large driver arrays, hence the new DS1500 kits from Rythmik.

Why not? ;D If space is a problem, I've heard that two 15"s with a 500w amp works nearly as well. Just have to cut the hole and pretty it up with a grille when that certain someone isn't home. It can be virtually invisible if you choose, unlike my lilac center of attention.

Thats why Im going to be running 6 15" drivers compression loaded down into the concrete across the front below the actuated screen. ;D , already have 2 15" in my bedroom setup, but can do em in a wall or ceiling since there are rooms both adjacent to and above me. No attick.

Ok going with a PC12-NSD or an Ultra 12 made my mind up after looking at money and space considerations
Prob the PC12 bc I really want bass for HT apps and I'll get more boom for the buck with the PC12
