I have been using mine with the updated firmware now since Wed and now it is rock solid. The audio quality is superb, and my video even looks better on my big flat panel. All the issues like video rez lock and HDMI problems are gone.
I was waiting on an amp replacement for my sub which came in yesterday, so after I had that swapped in for the bad one I then ran EmoQ for the first time under the new firmware.
It was fairly close to settings I would have set manually, and I did go back in and tweak some of it's values. Remember, everyone. EmoQ is a feature that you do not have to use if you don't want to. Just do it by hand like you've always done if you don't like what it gives you.
Last night I watched the MJ "This Is It" blu ray movie and the audio and video quality knocked my socks off. Tight, powerful bass, beautiful mid-range and crystal clear highs. The UMC-1 sounds as good as my old DMC-1 ever did. My only *bleep* now is the (IMHO) cheap remote w/o discreet input codes. I still use my old DMC-1 remote (an MX-500) and have no easy way to get the just-released discreet codes put into this model remote.

everything is working great with my UMC-1 since I did the update. Nothing but positive remarks from me. I cant wait to get home and listen to it again tonight. Will it be a ball game, a Blu Ray movie or just 2 channel music?

I still use my old DMC-1 remote (an MX-500) and have no easy way to get the just-released discreet codes put into this model remote. If you have a friend that has a Harmony, you could ask them to have Logitech put the hex codes into their profile. Once the remote has them (after performing the online update) you can then learn the buttons you need from it directly.

The other change I made last night was to remove the HDMI connection from my Dish Vip722 DVR and recable it using component and fiber optic for the video/audio. The DVR can only output up to 1080i, so I'm not losing anything by going back to component in, and when I had the HDMI cable hooked up, the damned DVR kept going into total sleep mode after inactivity. This is even after supposedly disabling that action in the DVR menus. I'd turn the TV and the UMC on at 6:25p to watch the 6:30p news, and would have to wait 5-10 minutes for the box to reacquire all the satellites and update the guide, etc. A royal PITA. It never did this when using just component cables.
So now when I turn things on, the DVR should just be in screensaver mode and be instantly ready to use. I think the UMC even shows that input a bit faster since it doesn't /can't do any handshaking.

Alhull,
I do not have a UMC-1 yet, and still trying to decypher from all of this if it the right product. However, that would be the way I would hook my Direct TV up to the UMC-1 until direct TV would update the HDMI connectivity. After reading a ton of threads, it appeared to me unless your willing to only hook up through HDMI, then go elsewhere. I haven't read of too many others hooking it up like you did. While hooking it up that way, are you still able to have the UMC-1 process the video through Component cables?

Or did you go HDMI out of the DVR for the first time w/ the UMC? I have the same DVR running HDMI into a HK AVR and have never had any issues similar to yours.

The complete power off issue with the UMC and Sat receivers has been documented here. We believe it has to do with the signal that the UMC sends over HDMI to the receiver. For what ever reason when the receiver gets the signal it completely crashes, and is required to re-boot and reacquire signal. I was hoping that it was going to be solved with the new firmware, but apperently it has not. After reading the thread on the subject, I had planned on using component and toslink anyway. As long as you don't have both HDMI and component hooked to the display, the UMC will take the component signal and output it through HDMI. *Edit I believe it was discussed in this thread: emotivalounge.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=preamps&action=display&thread=8909But it might have been another one.

Yes I would have to agree the update made the UMC-1 great the process of the upgrade was painful. The sound of this thing makes me wonder how did they do it, it is to say a word AWESOME !!! I also listened to MJ This is it and it was incredible, the bass was tight and the upper end was dead on I had the Cary 11A and can say the UMC-1 rivals it and my old B&K ref 50 was a good processor but is out classed in every way by the UMC-1. I had one problem after the upgrade where I could not cycle though all of the modes but think that was user error not the UMC, If you are on the fence after the upgrade go ahead and jump over you will not be disappointed. This is coming from someone who only a few years ago would not have considered the UMC-1 because at this price point I did not believe it could exist in a mid to upper end system (Well it can) with no problem or apology needed, I have not ran EMO-Q nor do I intend to as from an old school stand point it is like all other room correction units I believe it messes up more than they correct the only one I use is the SMS-1 for my subs, the only other one that I would consider is the Tact system at 10,000 I,m not in that frame of mind to spend that on my system right now ;D I only hope that future firmware upgrades are less problematic. So if you are thinking about one buy it !! I have heard on another forums that its old now but don't understand how, what else does any other company have that is any more up to date remember those statements come from a few people who post a lot with there own agendas. There is one thing that I absolutely hate about the UMC is the incredibly cheap remote and would gladly buy one if they come out with a better more upscale one this one looks and feels like a dollar store remote.

Just a heads up to everyone. We will be releasing an upgrade remote for the UMC very soon. All aluminum with discrete input selections. It should be here in a few weeks. ;D Please tell me that the new remote isn't designed as a BRICK. Ergonomic feel to a remote is important - especially so that you can easily feel/memorize key buttons. Also, it would be nice if it had back-lit buttons. Can you post a photo or drawing of the new remote? And, if you could give us a clue as to the price of the new remote - that would be good too. Lastly, for new owners (not yet purchased), how about a discount so that the original plastic remote could be deleted? Example: Aluminum remote $75. Credit for deleting the original plastic remote $25. Thanks.

I am having one problem still its the flickering display. Just for a test, use a shorter cable from the processor to the tv or projector and see if the flicker is still there.

Unfortunately because I have dedicated room and the control room is not close to my PJ that is not possible. Someone else reported the same problem it happens on the 2nd dimming position out of the 10 on startup after a hour or so it stabilizes check one of your units on a cold startup and see if you can recreate it and let me know I was told by one of your staff it might be a timing issue.
