Roadrunner, This is excellent news. I was not aware they are waiving the 30 day trial period until all FW updates are out. I did get the first FW update but I still have issues with my unit. Also my remote was dead on arrival, and when I called a couple weeks ago, Emotiva assured me they would send me a new remote. I still haven't received anything, maybe because they are aware I have the USP too. I did not know about the USP/UMC fix, so that is great to hear about. Updates on these issues are not easy to find here so it's frustrating to kind of guess and wait. I will call them tomorrow to find out the latest, but thanks your post makes me feel a bit better.

Regulator I know how frustrating it is going through the process of identifying and fixing the bugs that the UMC-1 is currently displaying. Two of the things that seem to be weighing heavily on your mind are the 30-Day Trial period expiring and the Code Overlap issue between the USP-1 and the UMC-1. Perhaps it would be comforting to know that both of these problems have been addressed by Emotiva. Last month, Big Dan posted that the "clock on the 30-Day Trial" will NOT start counting down until FW releases have stabilized the UMC-1; and, as a result you need not feel pressured to make a decision before you trial period expires -- it hasn't even started to count down. This is important knowing that Emotiva is standing behind the product and that their engineering team is confident that all the bugs can be fixed via FW releases. This is the quote from Big Dan about extending the 30-day trial period: Hi All, I just wanted to let all current UMC-1 owners know that we will extend their 30 day return privilege on their UMC-1's to allow you to have a chance to experience your unit in all of its glory once we release the SW update.
We've never asked a client to keep one of our products that they were not 100% satisfied with; this is not how we operate.
So, if you currently have a UMC-1, do not feel like the clock is running out on you. We're going to give you the extra time you need. Thank you, Big Dan
My question is, he made this statement before the first firmware upgrade was released. He didn't say until the FW releaseS have stabilized the unit; at that time he probably anticipated the first one would substantially do the trick but it doesn't seem to have done that. Therefore, has the 30-day trial truly not started, or did it begin once the first FW release was made? That makes a big difference in the evaluation period. Or was there a subsequent statement made that I missed? The quote from Big Dan is not the same thing as what Roadrunner wrote so I would like some clarification on this point.

Okay I did see that comment that was made by Dan, and I also assumed it only applied after the first FW that was given. I would think they would waive the 30 day trial period on all units sold since the beginning until everything has been ironed out. From what I gather in Dan's message they would do this, and to me it seems fair. Especially this comment "We've never asked a client to keep one of our products that they were not 100% satisfied with; this is not how we operate." I am confident Emotiva will do the right thing and let people keep their units for as long as needed until all 'bugs' have been addressed. Hopefully they can come out with an official statement on the matter.

I have just done another search and the only statement from Dan that I could find (several) refer to the (first) firmware starting the 30 day clock. WHere did you get your information that the 30 day clock starts on the "second" set of firmware fixes? ?

Yes, Dan did make his statement on March 9 whereas Roadrunner was making a statement as "gospel" on March 4. There is a difference between Dan/Emo making an official statement as opposed to someone on a web forum who does not work for Emo nor has any proof of what he is stating. That was the point of my post, it was not Emo making the statement THAT ROADRUNNER was making and that roadrunner had nothing to back up his statement other than his trust in Emo.

I hope some Emotiva comments on the tracking form show up soon, that column looks awfully lonely!

I hope some Emotiva comments on the tracking form show up soon, that column looks awfully lonely! I sent a note to Dan asking if they would be addressing the new firmware with the items in this list and am waiting a response. I appreciate everyone's continued support.

I hope some Emotiva comments on the tracking form show up soon, that column looks awfully lonely! Didn't Dan post four/five days ago that he was going to post an updated list of what Emo was working on in the way of fixes to be in the next f/w update? I thought he said he would "...post in a day or two"?

I agree, Dan did say he'd post an updated lists of bugs in a day or two on 3/9. Been waiting to hear since. It's horrible to put pressure for an update though, I truly believe they are working as hard as they can on this. Then again, it was mentioned in his post, so it's also not unexpected that people would expect to see something in that timeframe.

That's not going to happen. Unless for some reason it's already in there (extemely unlikely), there would need to be a significant upgrade to the UMC operating system in order to support flash drives. Drivers would have to be installed. FAT32 file system support would have to be added, etc., etc.
It could be done, but not without a pretty large firmware update via the original method.

It would be nice if we knew which bugs the upcoming FW, described by Lonnie in the update thread, will cure. Some of the enhancements are to general to begin to decipher this for ourselves.

Ok - so there is nothing wrong with 1 more update the "old way". Then, all future updates can be done the "easy way". C'mon - how difficult can this be - even it takes another 5 days to include the additional stuff. The reduction in support headache is ALONE worth it...
