My future purchase is going to be a 77 inch LG OLED. My viewing distance is about 6 feet. I will be upgrading from a 65 inch. Has anybody had any experience with a 77 inch OLED? What is it like for you? Would you reccomend it?
Now I see they have an 83 inch version too. I am trying to figure out if going to 83 would be "too big" from my viewing distance. Any thoughts? Do you think I would regret not going up to an 83 inch? Is it a substantial difference?

I have an 85 at about 10’, it’s great, but never too big. When micro or mini LED gets more affordable in a 100+ size I’ll upgrade. I’d always say if you can afford it get the biggest available, no one regrets too big.

Can you describe the experience in terms of how it changes how you view things? Do you find that the sides are cut off and you are turning your head all the time? Do you find yourself craning your neck up because of the height? Do you think the size helps you focus on the smaller things happening in the screen? Is that more immersive or more of a distraction? My conundrum is this. The LG G1 is 77 inch and likely more expensive than the LG 83 inch C series OLED. However the LG G1 77 inch is supposed to have the new OLED 2.0 technology. Giving something like a 20% brighter picture at about 1000 nits. So I've been debating whether the brighter OLED at 77 inch would be worth it over a bigger 83 OLED but slightly dimmer at about 760 nits.

I'm also in the camp of biggest is best but 6ft is not that far away and a 77" is pretty big for that distance, I'm 10' from my 100" screen, if it's mainly 4K you will be watching I'd say go for whichever one but for mainly 1080p or less 77" would be big enough Chad PS. can you hit up the local bestbuy and see for yourself ??

I don't think the new line up with the brighter 77 inch and the dimmer 83 inch are out yet for best buy. I have seen the 2020 77inch LG CX OLED which is what attracted me to the larger screen size. it's just hard to imagine it in my room. You know the display areas are wide open spaces with other big tvs next to them. I remember when I got the 65 inch home, it felt way different and more sizeable. I definitely think I can go for a bigger screen than 65 inch though and like you mentioned I want to go for the biggest I can. But I don't want to go "too big" where it actually hurts the viewing making me crane my neck and stuff. I watch several 4k blu ray movies but the majority of my watching is either streaming 4k/1080p or Blu-ray movies 1080p.

I don’t find myself moving my head around, my eyes yes, if there’s something at the edge of the screen that I want to focus on. Ideally you want your eye level in the center of the screen, but I think if you’re inside the edges of the TV you’re fine (assuming you have normal peripheral vision). I’m not a fan of the interior decorator ‘over the fireplace’ placement, which does force you to look up. We went from 73” to 85” and thought it a great upgrade in size. I don’t find immersion to be a distraction, but brightness is a consideration you’ll have to judge for yourself, 1000 nits is desirable. Room brightness is a consideration, we have a a blackout screen that rolls down over the outside back of the house for daytime viewing.

You can use this to check. Pretty handy tool. You can just how much bigger the 77 is vs the 65 but the 83 is only marginally larger. tvcalculator.com/

I like how they have a visual example and I can do actually three tvs. My current one 65" and then the 77" and 83". AND I LOVE HOW THEY GIVE THE DIMENSIONS TOO. Because I need it to fit between my speakers.

Well.... ok so I'm not sure. The 83 inch price is rumored to be higher than expected. Rumored to 8000 Euro. Hopefully it will be cheaper in the US because that is rather pricey for me. I could see myself swinging maybe $7k USD but higher than that is going to be tough. The 77 inch G1 may actually be slightly less than that because it is the new 2.0 panel that the 83 inch does not have. However the regular c1 77 inch is priced at about 5 grand which is not that great because amazon has what is essentially the identical model (2020 version) for a little over 3 grand. www.flatpanelshd.com/news.php?subaction=showfull&id=1612502768

So, could be a bit lower, but not thousands lower (until later in its life cycle). My recommendation is always to buy the best that you can when you're ready to buy. I would rather have a smaller screen and a better picture than a larger screen and a lesser picture.

I would rather have a smaller screen and a better picture than a larger screen and a lesser picture. That is the conundrum! Smaller screen better picture, larger screen lesser picture? At these massive sizes, I have a feeling I would be really satisfied with the 77 inch G1. But because I'm spending so much, I plan to keep it for at least five years. So I may find myself wondering - why didn't I go for the larger size? Back in the day the larger size vs smaller size was an easier decision. The larger tvs used to look pretty crap, dim, and not as sharp as the smaller better tvs. But The 83 inch C1 OLED is already going to look stunning if all their previous models are anything to go by. The attractive thing is that the 77 inch G1 OLED can do a 1000 nits and I believe that's about the start of where HDR content is calibrated to. So that is a significant benefit knowing that it can hit at least some of that spec.

7 Grand holy smokes haha, I was thinking I was getting crazy when i bought my projector for $1300 CAD 4 years ago, that's the most I've ever spent on any type of display, if it's 7g US I wouldn't even wanna know what it will be up here lol, I would love to go 4K at some point but having the XMC-1 with 1.4 HDMI and a 1080p projector I would be in the 3 to 5 grand minimum to do it and yeah I don't have anywhere near that cash flow haha.

Yeah that's way more than I have ever spent on a TV. Believe it or not, the most I've spent on a TV was about $700 and that was for a 37 inch Westinghouse monitor - didn't even qualify as a tv! Maybe I'm being naive, but I've been wanting to find a TV that is so big that I simply wouldn't want to go bigger and looked so good that I wouldnt really want to upgrade. Now usually, I would have been perfectly happy with this next purchase except...sigh...micro-LED is around the corner. In about 4-5 years, I believe the sizes of TVs will come down significantly and one of those wall sized displays (146 inch/approx $100,000) will probably come down to under 10 grand. Those microleds already have the ability to do perfect black like OLEDs but without the limitations in brightness. Their current microled displays can manage 2000 nits of brightness (incredible). In n a few years, I think it's possible for those microleds to get up to 4000 nits and meet all the brightness specs of the latest HDR formats including HDR 10+ and Dolby Vision, possibly at very close to full DCI-P3. When tvs get to that level, things are going to be a huge step up and I will probably want to upgrade again!

If you wait until next year's tech comes out you'll always be waiting. For me, I wait until I need it as my TVs always shoot craps before I'm tired of them. Then, I get the best that I can afford and I'm happy until it goes out again. Spending $7k or $8k~$9k ever 3+ years is too much for this cat.

Yes it’s outrageous what the msrp is at the start of the year. But it’s been the model in the TV industry. The early adopters will pay the full fare and they gradually reduce the price until around Black Friday. I bought the 65” C7 for around $2k about 4 years ago. 77 or 83 would be great but I also don’t like to spend a lot for TVs. Now I have 2 65” OLEDs since I just bought one off of the Emporium. Someday I’ll buy the 77 or 83”, if the price drops below $2500 or so. My kids don’t watch TV much since they would rather use their phones so it’s just for me.
