garbulky - Once you get it, INVITE ME OVER! I want to see it. I'll wear a HAZMAT suit if your better half wants, but I really would like to see it.

LG OLED TV for $6K at Costco already includes the protection plan for the 83”.
This would probably be an amazing TV.

Here's the new Sony Bravia XR-77A80J for a size comparison. I just got back from eating as I wanted to take my friend for the meal and beer that was promised for getting the LG C8 wall mounted in the bedroom and helping me get the legs on the Sony and putting her on my console. I haven't done any actual settings, so I'll be setting that up now and I'll get back to you all about my first impressions. I will say it looks to be out of the box a bit brighter than my LG, but that's on the "Standard" picture setting and what's recommended by my ISF calibrator is the "Custom Pro" setting. More to come. View AttachmentI always knew the Hulk was a big guy, but... I have a 65" about 7' ~ 8' away and several guides as well as my old rule of thumb says that is about the right size. However, a 77" will fit, so I am planning an upgrade at some point. My kids are pushing for it as one of them gets the 65" hand-me-down and the other gets his 55"... They are pushing hard but not offering to pay for it, natch. Just missed the LG sale, and still debating waiting a year to see if the micro-LED versions come out and are reasonably priced (ha!) In the meantime, I need to upgrade my router scheme, and my NAS died, so I have plenty to spend my funds on outside new TV toys.

For those of you that have followed this in the past, and/or interested in this type of shootout of the current US Market 4K/8K panels, this is todays shootout judging of the Top-Of-The-Line 4K/8K panels from Sony/LG/Samsung/Hisense. There are several well known industry experts as judges that you should recognize, and Robert Zohn of ValueElectronics being the founder of this yearly TV Shootout and Stacy Spears(Spears & Munsil) is the "Master of Ceremony" if you will. There are several YouTube Channels covering this but the Official streaming channel of todays and tomorrows event is "SpareChange".

Anyone considering an ultra short throw projector? Can yield up to 120" picture from only a few inches away from the wall. Intriguing!

Now with CES's LG and Sony 2022 OLED line up shown, it's given me new interesting possibilities. The QD-OLED's improved color volume sounds like it may be quite enticing. However it is limited to 65 inches. I'm looking for something in the 80 inch range. If things line up, maybe I will make a purchase in 2023 or 2024. I'm not in a major hurry. I've waited ages, perhaps most of my life, for a display that I can hold on to for a long time and be satisfied. So when I buy, I want to buy the right one.
2024 might bring Sony with a QD-OLED 83 inch with an 8k display and substantially better brightness. That may be the ticket to make me bite. But at the same time, I got a chance to see the A90J 83 inch in person and it was what I expected though I wasn't wowed by the brightness (in Bestbuy under bright lights). So it did get me to start considering how much real difference there is between LG C1 83 inch displays and the A90J.

Samsung Display is the manufacturer of the QD OLED panels that Sony will using for its A95K Master Series TVs(availability is the end of 2022) and I suspect a hefty price for this new 55/65 in panel tech with Samsung Display’s manufacturing yield probably being initially low with no panels >65 for now.

What a great read! I enjoyed everyone’s input in this thread. I could easily convince the Mrs that it’s time to boost quality and screen size but I could wait a year or two. Our interest is in a 77” to 83” tv We’re still loving the quality picture of our C8 65” though.

LCSeminole Great posts. That 83 inch A90 J price is very attractive. Looks like there is a lot of great development. A lot of things to keep in mind. I am extremely tempted to wait for an 80-ish inch microled version. If they can get these out at 4k resolution and brightness - say 1000-20000 nits and a reasonable price, I mean that's what I want. Currently most of the OLEDs I'm seeing still can't reach proper brightness spec of the HDR formats and I think that's its greatest weakness. So we'll have to see! But 6k for the 83 inch A90J? Perhaps even less on Black friday? Hey oh!

Now that we're about a week out of CES2022, this video from Digital Trends puts all of the facts/features together of all of the major players most sought after panels. Interesting tidbit of info in this video @9:38 mark, he says all of the A80K series OLED's will get the brighter panel and will be receiving the A90J heatsinks(I've not heard any other sources reporting this, so I'm not counting this info as fact at this time, though Digital Trends has always been reliable). I will say I've seen both 65in A80J(without heatsink) and 65in A90J(with heatsink), and both ISF calibrated, side by side, and yes their is a bit of a brief boost in bright scenes, but overall the two models are more similar than not.

While Samsung has yet to release a pricing structure on their 89/101/110in MicroLED's, I personally won't be holding my breath for an AFFORDABLE Micro-LED panel for at least 4-5 years. The yield in the production process has obviously not reached a sustainable percentage for reasonable profit, otherwise Samsung display would have already announced this at CES2022. My history with Samsung hasn't been the best, and I will admit my expectations are quite low for Samsung as a flat panel display manufacturer. I will say since Sony has invested in Samsung displays QD-OLED panel technology for their upcoming A95K series due to release at the end of 2022, then maybe Samsung is finally moving in the right direction. Time will tell.

I was hoping to make my next tv purchase a one and done, but perhaps, it may end up being two purchases. Do I have the patience to wait for Microled to come down in price?
