Earlier I was watching a Vincent Teoh(HDTVTest on Youtube) video, on unboxing and settings of the A90J and taking notes of the different picture settings for initial setup. LG and Sony are definitely different in their UI settings, so trying to learn the Sony "language" before I get my panel the following Saturday.

A bit OT, but in the discussion on display technology. Here’s a snippet from a c/net review on the new M1 based iPad Pros, the larger 12.9” model also got a display upgrade. “ That new Liquid Retina XDR display is awesome (but only on the 12-inch model) Only the 12.9-inch iPad Pro has Apple's newest display technology, the mini LED-based Liquid Retina XDR. All those fancy words basically mean it feels like an OLED display on an iPad. Much like Apple's pro-model iPhones, the colors and dynamic range of colors and contrast feel a lot sharper, and black levels are pretty close to perfect in everyday use. Watching movies, for instance, you'll have totally black letterboxing. Some sample photos of HDR content sent by Apple clearly show off extra detail on the new display. The display works by using an array of smaller LEDs to control backlighting in a lot more dynamic way than normal LED-backlit LCD screens. TVs have been using mini LED tech to great success as a way to offer vivid images on a more affordable budget. The iPad Pro 12.9's display looks like a model for how this tech could carry over to MacBooks, iMacs, and other iPads too. Side-by-side with the 11-inch iPad, which has the same Liquid Retina LCD display as previous iPad Pros, it's notably better. But it's also doubling down on a strength of previous iPad Pros, which was... the display. The 2020 iPad Pro still has a display that looks better than the M1 MacBook Air's. I feel like I've made similar comments about the iPhone, when the LCD-based iPhone XR arrived next to the OLED iPhone X: If you're an everyday iPad owner, you won't need the new XDR display. But wow, it would be great if all future iPads and Macs got one next.” c/net review, new iPad Pro 12 gets new screen

Even though I now have a decent idea, I'm still trying to get more ideas of what 77 inch panels look like in a room!

Interesting video about being able to change a setting in the "Service Menu" of the LG C1 and now getting the performance of an LG G1. If interested, the LG C1/G1 owners thread on AVSForum has the information to do this, you just have to read a few pages from about post #2441 to piece together how to do it.

My Sony got delivered to my store earlier than expected, so I got my neighbor and his truck and were headed back with it now. Pictures and initial thought to come soon.

This is my LG OLED65C8. This should give you an idea what the difference is between a 65in and 77in. I'm waiting on a friend to come over within the hour so we can move the 65in LG to my bedroom wall mount, and then we'll unbox the Sony 77in and sit it right where the 65in is now. Click on the picture and it will turn it right-side up for you.

Here's the new Sony Bravia XR-77A80J for a size comparison. I just got back from eating as I wanted to take my friend for the meal and beer that was promised for getting the LG C8 wall mounted in the bedroom and helping me get the legs on the Sony and putting her on my console. I haven't done any actual settings, so I'll be setting that up now and I'll get back to you all about my first impressions. I will say it looks to be out of the box a bit brighter than my LG, but that's on the "Standard" picture setting and what's recommended by my ISF calibrator is the "Custom Pro" setting. More to come.

Well, I'm completely in AWE of the "Dolby Vision Bright" picture mode. While the "Cinema User" picture mode on my ISF calibrated LG OLED65C8 for "Dolby Vision" content looked really good, this pre-calibrated at the factory Dolby Vision Bright mode is absolutely STUNNING!!! Yes overall this Sony is brighter overall than my LG C8 in all content, SDR/HDR/DolbyVision. More to come!!!

Thanks B'zilla! I love the form factor of the projector where you can position it against the screen and in HDR. If I was in the market for a projector these kind of projectors would greatly interest me. However, a projector is unnecessary for me. Projectors are needed due to wanting a larger screen. This one in particular puts out a 90 inch picture. But the 83 inch tv is the biggest I can fit in to my space, literally. So therefore needing a projector is moot. Costwise it is better, 5 grand vs 8 grand for my tv. But the projector has worse picture quality versus OLED, specifically in black levels and poorer ambient light performance. So the OLED TV wins.

Hopeful estimate Black Friday 2022. Though there is a slim chance it may be this November. Edit: Oh geez the best buy protection plan is a $1000 !!
